North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards: a)lathe department - where the Jackson lathes were used by employees without guards in place to protect employees against flying debris, and the rotating log/veneer knife. Among other methods, two applicable and feasible methods to correct this hazard are to install guards to prevent employees from accessing the rotating log area, and install a protective barrier to shield the operator and helper from flying debris.
