29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which was 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level was not protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems: (a) WeatherSure Systems, Inc at 858 Coal Creek Circle, Louisville, CO 80027: On April 28, 2011, the employer did not ensure that each employee on a walking/working surface with an unprotected side or edge which was 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level was protected from falling by the use of a guardrail system, safety net system, or personal fall arrest system. One employee was repairing holes in the face of the building at the rooftop edge on the south side of the building without utilizing a fall protection system. In addition, this same employee jumped approximately 3 feet down from one parapet wall to another parapet wall along the roof's edge to complete the repairs. This condition exposed the employee to a fall hazard of approximately 30 feet. (b) WeatherSure Systems, Inc at 858 Coal Creek Circle, Louisville, CO 80027: On April 28, 2011, the employer did not ensure that each employee on a walking/working surface with an unprotected side or edge which was 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level was protected from falling by the use of a guardrail system, safety net system, or personal fall arrest system. Two employees accessed the roof of the building using two ladders via a canopy roof directly above the building's entrance. Employees working on the canopy roof did not utilize a fall protection system. This condition exposed the employees to a fall hazard of approximately 14.5 feet. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (see enclosed Sample Abatement Certification Letter).
