29 CFR 1960.8(a):     The head of the agency did not furnish to each employee employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm:    a) In that, employees at the Protective Care Unit (PCU) were exposed to the hazard of violent behavior of and physical assaults by residents.    Feasible and useful abatement methods for reducing this hazard include, but not limited to:    a)  Install a deep service counter at the PCU nurses station.  The redesign of the service counter at the nurses station must employ appropriate combination of height and depth to protect employees in the nurses station from aggressive behavior caused by aggressive or agitated clients across the counter.      b)  Provide a multi-purpose activity room at PCU, equipped with appropriate furniture and equipment, that can be used as a treatment area for confused and agitated clients.
