29 CFR 1926.501(b)(3): Each employee in a hoist area shall be protected from falling 6 feet (1.8 m) or more to lower levels by guardrail systems or personal fall arrest systems. If guardrail systems, [or chain, gate, or guardrail] or portions thereof, are removed to facilitate the hoisting operation (e.g., during landing of materials), and an employee must lean through the access opening or out over the edge of the access opening (to receive or guide equipment and materials, for example), that employee shall be protected from fall hazards by a personal fall arrest system: a) On or about December 23, 2011 - at the jobsite located at 17755 S. Torrence Avenue, Lansing, IL 60438 - an employee in a hoist area was not protected by the use of guardrails or a personal fall arrest system, thereby exposing the employee to fall hazards of thirty (30) feet.

The Norton Sons Roofing Co., Inc. was previously cited for a violation for this Occupational Safety and Health Standard or its equivalent Standard, 29 CFR 1926.502(f)(1), which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 312597420, Citation Number 1 Item Number 1a and was affirmed as final order on December 10, 2009 with respect to the workplace located at 3340 North Manor, Lansing, IL 60438.
