29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use:    a. On or about 01/12/12, at the mechanics shop, at A-9 Services area, Bovoni Landfill, St. Thomas, VI. An emergency eye wash was not provided in the immediate area when employees used and/or handled Sanitation Solutions corrosive products such as gasoline, diesel and Grease Go (sodium hydroxide), during dishwashing operation [ANSIZ358.1-2004].     NOTE:  Cerification of abatement must be submitted for this citation item as required by 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

The employer did not develop a written hazard communication program to address the use and/or handling of hazardous products such as gasoline, diesel and Grease Go (sodium hydroxide) for employees engaged in heavy equipment repair operations. 29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1):  Employers shall provide employees with effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment, and whenever a new physical or health hazard the employees have not previously been trained about is introduced into their work area. Information and training may be designed to cover categories of hazards (e.g., flammability, carcinogenicity) or specific chemicals. Chemical-specific information must always be available through labels and material safety data sheets.    a. On or about 01/12/12, at the mechanics shop, at A-9 Services area, Bovoni Landfill, St. Thomas, VI. The employer did provide information and training to employees engaged in heavy equipment repair operations while utilizing hazardous chemicals such as gasoline, diesel and Grease Go (sodium hydroxide).
