29 CFR 1910.157(c)(1): The employer shall provide portable fire extinguishers and shall mount, locate and identify them so that they are readily accessible to employees without subjecting the employees to possible injury: a. On or about 01/12/12, at A-9 Services area, Bovoni Landfill, St. Thomas, VI. At the diesel tank area, at the fuel portable truck and and the mechanic shop, portable and operable fire extinguishers were not provided and available in the immediate area when employees used and/or handled flammable and combustible materials. NOTE: Cerification of abatement must be submitted for this citation item as required by 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

29 CFR 1910.253(b)(4)(iii): Oxygen cylinders in storage shall be separated from fuel-gas cylinders or combustible materials (especially oil or grease), a minimum distance of 20 feet (6.1 m) or by a noncombustible barrier at least 5 feet (1.5 m) high having a fire-resistance rating of at least one-half hour: a. On or about 01/12/12, at the diesel tank area, A-9 Services area, Bovoni Landfill, St. Thomas, VI. Employees worked and walked by two oxygen gas cylinders which were stored together, left standing and not separated, next to a diesel tank. NOTE: Cerification of abatement must be submitted for this citation item as required by 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
