29 CFR 1926.651(i)(1): Where the stability of adjoining buildings, walls, or other structures is endangered by excavation operations, support systems such as shoring, bracing, or underpinning shall be provided to ensure the stability of such structures for the protection of employees. At the site, for excavation work performed around the canopy: On or about March 12, 2012, the employer did not ensure that the gas station canopy that was being removed was shored or braced to prevent it from falling over, exposing the employee(s)to the hazard of being struck by the canopy. Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the date of this citation, the employer must submit documentation showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including describing the steps that it is taking to ensure that shoring or bracing is used in the removal of all gas station canopies and/or other structures.
