29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use [ANSIZ358.1-2004]: On or about 04/18/12, at Caneel Bay, St. John, VI. An emergency eye wash was not provided in the immediate area when employees used and/or handled corrosive products as follows: a. At the laundry area. Employees used and/or handled Eco-Star (Ecolab) products such as Builder C (sodium hydroxide), Oxy-Brite (hydrogen peroxide), Destainer (sodium hypochlorite) and Sour Control (phosphoric acid) during laundry operations. b. At the Turtle Bay kitchen. Employees used and/or handled Ecolab products such as Greasecutter Plus (sodium hydroxide), and Solid Power (sodium hydroxide) during dishwashing operations. c. At the Main kitchen. Employees used and/or handled Ecolab products such as Solid Power (sodium hydroxide) during dishwashing operations. d. At the Sugar Mill Restaurant kitchen. Employees used and/or handled Ecolab products such as Solid Power (sodium hydroxide) during dishwashing operations. e. At the sewage treatment plant area. Employees used and/or handled calcium hypochlorite tabs such as Clor Mor and E-Z Clor during plant maintenance operations. NOTE: Certification of abatement must be submitted for this citation item as required by 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

The employer did not implement their written hazard communication program to ensure having material safety data sheets when using and/or handling products as follows: a. At the laundry area. Employees used and/or handled Eco-Star (Ecolab) products such as Detergent Plus during laundry operations. b. At the Turtle Bay kitchen. Employees used and/or handled Ecolab products such as Heavy duty rinse dry and Spartan Consume LIQ during dishwashing operations. c. At the Main kitchen. Employees used and/or handled Ecolab products such as Heavy duty rinse dry during dishwashing operations. d. At the Sugar Mill Restaurant kitchen. Employees used and/or handled Ecolab products such as Heavy duty rinse dry during dishwashing operations. e. At the sewage treatment plant area. Employees used and/or handled calcium hypochlorite tabs such as Clor Mor and E-Z Clor during plant maintenance operations. f. At the maintenance shop area. Employees used and/or handled refrigerants such as Genetron R-22 and nitrogen compressed gas during air conditioning maintenance operations. g. At the maintenance shop area. Employees used and/or handled compressed gases such as oxygen and acetylene during welding/cutting operations. NOTE 1: Caneel Bay was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health standard or its equivalent standard which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 313533143, Citation Number 1, Item Number 1(a), Issued on 01/04/2011, with respect to a workplace located at Trunk Bay & Cinnamon Bay, St. John, VI.
