B & J Custom Cabinets, Inc. - on or about July 5, 2012, wiring in a spray area was not rated for the operation.  Outlets and conduit were not intrinsically safe for the operation.  Area used for application of flammable wood finish, paint, stains.

29 CFR 1910.107(d)(5):  Electric motor(s) driving exhaust fan(s) for spray booth(s) were located inside the booth(s):    B & J Custom Cabinets, Inc. - on or about July 5, 2012, spray application of flammable wood finish, paint, and stain was performed in a designated spray area, which included a fan drawing vapors to the exterior of the building.  The motor of the fan was inside the spray area, where it could be exposed to flammable vapors.

29 CFR 1910.107(e)(2):  The quantity of flammable or combustible liquids kept in the vicinity of spraying operations exceeded minimum required for operations and ordinarily exceeded a supply for 1 day or one shift:    B & J Custom Cabinets, Inc. - on or about July 5, 2012, flammable liquids were stored inside the spray room, rather than in a separate araea away from the spray operation.  The amount present was over 40 gallons, and more than that used in a single shift.  Products stored in area included paints and stains.

29 CFR 1910.134(c)(1):  A written respiratory protection program that included the provisions in 29 CFR 1910.134(c)(1)(i) - (ix) with worksite specific procedures was not established and implemented for required respirator use:    B & J Custom Cabinets, Inc. - on or about July 5, 2012, employees were required to wear filtering facepiece respirators when sanding wood cabinets, and a half-face air purifying respirator when spraying.  The employer did not develop and implement a written Respiratory Protection program.    1.  In the main production area, employees are required to wear filtering facepiece respirators when sanding unfinished products, several times per week.    2.  In the spray area, the painter uses an air-purifying half-face respirator when applying paint and stains.  Spraying is done approximately two hours per day.
