Note: Non-mandatory Appendix B contains an example of procedures that would comply with the requirement for a hazard assessment. The employer did not ensure that personal protective equipment to protect the legs from burns of molten aluminum at temperatures approximately 1340 degrees fahrenheit was adequate in that the employer wore duct tape around the spats to hold them on.

29 CFR 1910.242(b): Compressed air used for cleaning. Compressed air shall not be used for cleaning purposes except where reduced to less than 30 p.s.i. and then only with effective chip guarding and personal protective equipment. Employees grinding on aluminum plates were permitted to remove aluminum dust from their bodies by using compressed air nozzles.

29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1): Employers shall provide employees with effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment, and whenever a new physical or health hazard the employees have not previously been trained about is introduced into their work area. Information and training may be designed to cover categories of hazards (e.g., flammability, carcinogenicity) or specific chemicals. Chemical-specific information must always be available through labels and material safety data sheets. The employer did not provide training in accordance with the Hazard Communication Standard in that employees exposed to chemicals such as but not limited to Stahlcoat (eye & skin irritant) and Tri flow Superior Lubricant (eye & skin irritant).
