29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Folding machines Braun model SPFRDM and labeled as machines 3, 4, 5 and 7 had missing or deficient guarding. 1- Folding machine number 5 did not have a working safety device such as an interlock to protect employees from rotating parts. 2- Employees were exposed to rotating parts while removing jams through the side doors on machine number 7. 3- Machines 3 and 4 had interlocks installed on the hinged side of the door. Installation permitted employees to open the doors high enough to insert their hands clear jams and monitor the operation inside the machine if necessary without activating the safety interlock. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
