29 CFR 1910.1030(c)(2)(i)(C): The exposure determination did not include a list of all tasks and procedures or groups of closely related tasks and procedures in which occupational exposure occurs and that are performed by employees in job classifications listed in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.1030(c)(2)(i)(B):    (a) Sealy Mattress Company at 12555 E. 39th Ave. in Denver, CO: The exposure determination did not include a list of all tasks and procedures or groups of closely related tasks and procedures in which occupational exposure occurs in that the employer did not include the use of tagging guns in the exposure determination.  This condition exposes employees to a bloodborne pathogens hazard.    Abatement Note: According to a letter of interpretation from OSHA dated August 12, 1994, "The procedure used with these (tagging) guns is common in the industry and occurs across the country, and employees are being stuck on a regular basis; it appears to be a recognized hazard in the industry.  In other words, not only is there a potential for the employees to be stuck, there is actual exposure on an anticipated level.  The issue of concern relating to the bloodborne pathogens standard is that these needle guns can retain blood in the hollow needle and on the tool."    Abatement Note:  Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Certification of Corrective Action Worksheet").

29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(2)(i) Engineering and work practice controls were not used to eliminate or minimize employee exposure:    (a) Sealy Mattress Company at 12555 E. 39th Ave. in Denver, CO: The employer did not ensure that engineering and work practice controls were used to eliminate or minimize employee exposure in that the employer did not implement precautions for employees' use of tagging guns.  This condition exposed employees to sharps injuries.    Abatement Note: Consider assigning employees their own tagging guns, implementing and enforcing a policy that forbids employees from using any tagging gun other than the one assigned to them, and training employees on this policy and the potential health consequences of violating the policy.    Abatement Note:  Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Certification of Corrective Action Worksheet").

Unlabeled containers of spot remover and machine oil were found near Quilter 1.  Unlabeled jugs of glue were found on a cart in the Matt Build area.
