29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: Workplace, 1865 State Route 23, Butler, NJ a) The employer did not protect employees who are required to put their hands into the CNC Star Machines SE-12 #5, SH-16 #24, and SE-12 #23, to retrieve machined parts that drop into a metal basket that is behind the guard door near machining parts that rotate and move and could cause serious injury or amputation. b) The employer did not protect employees who are required to put their hands into the CNC Star Machines SR-32 # 7, SR-32 #25, and SA-16R #27 to remove cutting lathe metal filings that remain on the cutting lathe because the filings negatively affect the precision of the part produced. Violation determined 9-12-12
