29 CFR 1910.1026(c):   Employees were exposed to an airborne concentration of chromium (VI) which exceeded 5 micrograms per cubic meter of air, as an 8-hour time-weighted average:    On or about 12/12/12, a spray painter engaged in the spray application of primer onto a Coast Guard Helicopter was overexposed to chromium VI at an 8 hour time weight average of 109.53 micrograms per cubic meter of air.  This exceeded the permissible exposure level by 21.9 times. The exposure level was derived from one sample collected over a 62 minute sampling period.  The remaining un-sampled time of 418 minutes was entered as zero exposure.        ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED.

29 CFR 1910.1026(f)(1)(ii): Painting of aircraft or large aircraft parts was performed; however, the employer did not use feasible engineering and work practice controls to reduce and maintain employee exposures to chromium (VI) to or below 25 micrograms per cubic meter of air:     On or about 12/12/12, in the paint shop, a spray painter was exposed to a chromium VI base primer where feasible engineering and work practice control were not properly implemented to reduce exposures to chromium VI.     ABATEMENT:  Engineering and work practice controls include, but are not limited to the following:    a) Increase overall ventilation inside booth.    b) Change spray application work practices to reduce exposure while painting parts of the helicopter.  Awkward postures are known to contribute to higher exposures.      c) Change filter more frequently to ensure optimal air flow.      All proposed control measures shall be evaluated for each particular use by a competent Industrial Hygienist or other technically qualified person.          ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED

29 CFR 1910.1026(i)(4)(i):  Employees were allowed to consume food or beverages at a worksite where chromium (VI) was present; however, the employer did not ensure that the eating and drinking areas were maintained as free as practicable of chromium (VI):      Paint Shop Break Room:  On or about 12/12/2012, the employer did not ensure that employees consuming food and drink were not exposed to surface contamination where 0.2405 micrograms (ug) of chromium VI was present on the area in front of the microwave.      ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
