29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(2)(vii)(A): Contaminated needles and other contaminated sharps were not be bent, recapped or removed unless the employer can demonstrate that no alternative is feasible or that such action is required by a specific medical or dental procedure. a. Dental Clinic, and Examination Rooms The employer did not prohibit recapping of needles unless no alternative was feasible or recapping was required by a specific medical procedure. Employees used Denject Disposable Dental Needles 30G Short to administer local anesthetics to patients. The employees used Certol ProTector Needle Sheath Prop, a disposable needle recapping device, to hold the needle cap securely and allow one-handing recapping. The dental needles lack commercially available and effective engineering controls, including sharps with engineered sharps injury protections designed either to eliminate or to minimize the risk of accidental percutaneous injuries from contaminated needles. This can result in transmission of bloodborne viruses, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), and hepatitis C virus (HCV). Observed On or About September 28, 2012

Observed On or About September 28, 2012 The Dentex Dental Group was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.1030(c)(1)(i), which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 314231093, Citation Number 01, Item Number 001(a) and was affirmed as a final order on March 3, 2011, with respect to a workplace [Dentex Dental Mobile Bus, a mobile dentist office] located at 56th and Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19134.
