Engineering controls in place did not reduce employee exposure below the permissible exposure limit of 50 micrograms per cubic meter.  Air sampling was conducted on 3/13/13 for 469 minutes. 29 CFR 1910.134(g)(1)(i)(A): Respirators with tight-fitting facepieces were worn by employees who had facial hair that came between the sealing surface of the facepiece and the face or that interfered with valve function:   a) On or about 2/14/13 - Cutting area, employees exposed to Particulates Not Otherwise Regulated (Respirable Fraction) were allowed to have facial hair that came between the sealing surface of the facepiece and the face.  An employee was exposed to 0.22 milligrams per cubic meter of nuisance dust (respirable fraction). Air sampling was done on 3/6/13 for 351 minutes.  Zero exposure was assumed for the remainder of the shift (129 minutes).   b) On or about 2/14/13 - Cutting area, employees exposed to Particulates Not Otherwise Regulated (Total Dust) were allowed to have facial hair that came between the sealing surface of the facepiece and the face.  An employee was exposed to 1.3 milligrams per cubic meter of nuisance dust. Air sampling was conducted on 3/12/13 for 489 minutes.
