29 CFR 1910.23(c)(1): Open-sided floors and/or platforms four feet or more above adjacent floor or ground level were not guarded with standard railings (or equivalent) on all open sides except where there is entrance to a ramp, stairway, or fixed ladder. a) Elevator shaft at below lobby floor level: An employee was walking and working on elevated steel buffer beams in an elevator shaft which is more than four feet above the bottom of the elevator pit. The employee did notweara or use while working on the buffer beams. On or about 04/25/13. NOTE: IN ADDITION TO CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT, THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT FOR THIS ITEM. FAILURE TO COMPLY MAY RESULT IN AN ADDITIONAL PENALTY OF $1,000 AS PER 29 CFR 1903.19. Abatement Note: One feasible and acceptable method of abatement is by compliance with section 8.2.3.2(b) in "Elevator Industry Field Employees Safety Handbook" 2010 edition by Elevator World, Inc.
