29 CFR 1910.106(e)(2)(ii)[B](2): The quantity of liquid located outside of an inside storage room or storage cabinet in a building or in any one fire area of a building exceeded 120 gallons of Class 1B, 1C, II, or III liquids in containers:    (a) Industrial Systems Inc, at 5513 Highway 348, Delta, CO:  On 5/6/13, Industrial Systems Inc did not ensure that the quantity of liquid located outside of an inside storage room or storage cabinet in a building or in any one fire area of a building did not exceed 120 gallons of Class 1B, 1C, II, or III liquids in containers.  Employees painted metal panels.  The preparation, painting, and clean-up operations used paints and solvents containing methyl amyl ketone, naphtha, xylene, and tert-butyl acetate.  These paints and solvents are Class 1B flammable liquids.  Approximately 1,229 gallons of flammable liquids were stored outside of cabinets or an inside storage room in the spray area of the paint shop.  The employer did not ensure that the quantity of flammable liquids did not exceed 120 gallons outside of an inside storage room or cabinet.  This condition exposed employees to a fire hazard.

Employees painted metal panels.  The preparation, painting, and clean-up operations used paints and solvents containing methyl amyl ketone, naphtha, xylene, and tert-butyl acetate. Employees painted metal panels.  The preparation, painting, and clean-up operations generated aerosols and vapors containing methyl amyl ketone, naphtha, xylene, and tert-butyl acetate.  These chemicals are Class 1B flammable liquids.  Employees utilized Cooper Lighting TQS1200QDR 1200 watt halogen work lights when spray painting.  The work lights were not approved for a Class I, Zone 2 location.  The employer did not ensure that the halogen work lights were not an ignition source.  This condition exposed employees to a fire hazard.

29 CFR 1910.159(c)(1)(ii): Equipment and devices used in the design and installation of automatic sprinkler systems were not approved, as defined in 29 CFR 1910.155(c)(3):     (a) Industrial Systems Inc, at 5513 Highway 348, Delta, CO:  On and preceding 5/6/13, Industrial Systems Inc did not ensure that equipment and devices used in the design and installation of automatic sprinkler systems were approved, as defined in 29 CFR 1910.155(c)(3).  Employees painted metal panels.  The preparation, painting, and clean-up operations generated aerosols and vapors containing methyl amyl ketone, naphtha, xylene, and tert-butyl acetate.  The work was done in a spray area.  The employer had designed and installed a fire suppression system in the spray area.  The spray area was a Special Occupancy location, extra hazard occupancy Group 2.  The piping for the sprinklers was constructed of Cresline 1 inch PVC Schedule 40 piping.  This piping does not comply with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 13 "Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems".  The employer did not ensure that the piping was approved.  This condition exposed employees to a fire hazard.
