Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential fire and explosion hazards associated with the ventilation and collection equipment.      For the Sensible Closet Company, Inc. establishment at 5844 Enterprise Parkway, Ft. Myers, FL 33905, as observed on or about 02/06/2013, employees were exposed to fire/explosion hazards associated with:     a) A poorly performing and poorly designed ventilation system that failed to capture fugitive dust from machinery such as saws and emitted the dust to the building interior resulting in dust accumulations over  1/2 inches deep. The wood dust was analyzed to be a combustible, class II dust, and equipment such as saws continually emitted dust to the building during their normal daily operation.    Sensible Closet Company. Inc. dba California Closets was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act which was contained in OSHA inspection number 873804, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on 04/22/2013 with respect to a workplace located at 5844 Enterprise Parkway in Ft Myers, FL 33905.

29 CFR 1910.22(a)(1): All places of employment, passageways, storerooms or service rooms were not kept clean and orderly or in a sanitary condition.    a) For the Sensible Closet facility at 5844 Enterprise Parkway, Ft. Myers, FL 33905, as observed on or about 06/27/2013, employees were exposed to fire/flame-wave and explosion/deflagration hazards associated with the accumulation of combustible wood dust from woodworking equipment on the equipment, duct work overhead, and upper surfaces. The dust was analyzed to be a class II dust with an explosion severity of 0.5700 and a pressure ratio of 6.94. Dust depths were measured from 1/4 in. to over 5/8 inch deep, and dust accumulation was measured to cover 14% of the floor surface area.     Sensible Closet Company, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard (29 CFR 1910.22(a)(1)), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 873804, citation number 1, item number 2a, and was affirmed as a final order on 04/22/2013 with respect to a workplace located at 5844 Enterprise Parkway, Ft. Myers, FL 33905.

Myers, FL 33905, as observed on or about 02/06/2013, employees were exposed to fire/flame-wave and explosion/deflagration hazards associated with the accumulation of combustible wood dust from woodworking equipment on the floor. The dust was analyzed to be a class II dust with an explosion severity of 0.5700 and a pressure ratio of 6.94. Dust depths were measured from 1/4 in. to over 5/8 inch deep, and dust accumulation was measured to cover 14% of the floor surface area. 29 CFR 1910.307(c): Equipment, wiring methods, and installations of equipment in hazardous (classified) locations were not intrinsically safe, approved for the hazardous (classified) location, or safe for the hazardous (classified) location:     a)  For the Sensible Closet facility at 5844 Enterprise Parkway, Ft. Myers, FL 33905, as observed on or about 06/27/2013, employees were exposed to fire/flame-wave and explosion/deflagration hazards associated with the accumulation of combustible wood dust from woodworking equipment on the equipment, electrical boxes, electrical conduit, and electrical motors.  The dust was analyzed to be a class II dust with an explosion severity of 0.5700 and a pressure ratio of 6.94.  Dust accumulation on electrical conduit was measured to be ¼ inch. The electrical equipment was not rated for its location and use with a class II dust.   Sensible Closet Company, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard (29 CFR 1910.307(c)), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 873804, citation number 1, item number 2c, and was affirmed as a final order on 04/22/2013 with respect to a workplace located at 5844 Enterprise Parkway, Ft. Myers, FL 33905.
