The exposure was 75.9 times the Permissible Exposure Limit of 50 ug/M3. The PEL was established to prevent damage to the blood-forming, nervous, urinary, and reproductive systems. The exposure was established over 225 minutes of personal sampling conducted on July 18, 2013. Zero exposure was assumed for the unsampled period of time. (b) An employee, vacuum operator, was exposed to lead at an 8 hour time weighted average of 1266 micrograms per cubic meter of air (ug/M3) while removing coatings. (b) An employee, vacuum operator, was exposed to lead at an 8 hour time weighted average of 1266 micrograms per cubic meter of air (ug/M3) while removing coatings. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED General methods of control would include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Use mechanical dilution ventilation within the containment area. 2. Erect smaller compartmentalized containment areas such that the existing exhaust system is more effective 3. Erect smaller compartmentalized containment areas such that the vacuum operator is separated from the blaster operations. 4. In a single compartment containment area stagger the times in which vacuum operations are conducted so that they are not done concurrently with blasting inside the same containment area. 5. This plan shall include, at a minimum, target dates for the following actions, which must be consistent with the abatement dates required by this citation: (1) Evaluation of engineering/administrative control options; (2) Selection of optimum control methods and completion of design; (3) Procurement, installation and operation of selected control measures; (4) Testing and acceptance or modification/redesign of controls. All proposed control measures shall be approved for each particular use by a competent industrial hygienist or other technically qualified person. Step 2 Abatement shall have been completed by the implementation of feasible engineering and /or administrative controls upon verification of their effectiveness in achieving compliance.

(b) An employee, blaster, was exposed to zinc oxide at an 8 hour time weighted average of 7.35 milligrams per cubic meter of air (mg/M3) while removing coatings.
