29 CFR 1910.22(c): Covers and/or guardrails were not provided to protect personnel from the hazards of open pits, tanks, vats, ditches, etc.  a) In the center of the southern maintenance building: On or about August 9, 2013 the employer failed to provide covers, a netting system or an adequate guardrail system for a 12 foot long and 4 foot wide maintenance pit, exposing employees to falls of approximately 5.4 feet while walking and working around the open pit.  AIA Recycling Corporation was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.22(c), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 315624700, citation number 1, item number 2 and was affirmed as a final order on September 7, 2011, with respect to a workplace located at 470 Cloverdale Rd. Greenville, AL 36037.

The employer allowed flexible cord to be run through the building to a junction box powering the fuel pump for an outside fuel storage tank.
