29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use [ANSIZ358.1-2004]: On or about 07/31/13, at Point Pleasant Resort, St. Thomas, VI. Emergency eye wash stations were not provided (eye wash stations water reservoirs were empty) in the immediate areas when employees used and/or handled corrosive products as follows: a. At the pump rooms of all pool areas. Employees used and/or handled corrosive products such as Sta Clear muriatic acid (hydrogen chloride), Tropi Clear tabs (Trichloroisocyanuric acid), Clor Mor granules (calcium hypochlorite) and Tropi Clear granular dichlor (sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione dihydrate) during pool maintenance operations. b. At the reverse osmosis (RO) plant area. Employees used and/or handled corrosive products such as sodium metabisulfite during plant maintenance operations. NOTE: Certification of abatement is not required for this citation item as abatement was documented by the compliance safety and health officer during the inspection.

The employer did not develop a written hazard communication program to ensure having material safety data sheets available as follows: a. At the sewage treatment plant area. Employees used and/or handled corrosive products such as Pool Time 3" tablets (trichloro-s-triazinetrione) and Aqua Guard Chlorinating Sanitizer 10.5% (sodium hypochlorite) during plant maintenance operations. b. At the reverse osmosis (RO) plant area. Employees used and/or handled corrosive products such as sodium metabisulfite and other products such as Flocon anti-scalant (organic acid mixture) products during plant maintenance operations NOTE: Certification of abatement is not required for this citation item since it was submitted prior to citation issuance. Please disregard the abatement date.
