OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls from height. Employees were using a self-supporting ladder approximately 6 feet tall to access an area below ground level approximately 8 feet for cleaning purposes. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: The employer failed to properly guard the Honing machines 1-6. Employees were exposed serious injuries due to flying components such as cutting stones. Abatement documentation was is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d). Scot Industries, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 315237537, citation number 1, item number 2 and was affirmed as a final order on March 31, 2011, with respect to a workplace located at 1961 W. U.S. Hwy. 30, Sugar Grove, IL 60554.
