On or about 11/21/2013, Pueblo Supermarket - #2 sub base- office stairway area, St. Thomas, VI :  Employees were exposed to fall hazards while working over a stairway that was not equipped with one standard stair railing on each side. 29 CFR 1910.178(f)(2):   The storage and handling of liquefied petroleum gas fuel was not in accordance with NFPA No. 58-1969, Storage and Handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gases:      Section 5.1:  General:  "Containers when stored inside shall not located near exits, stairways or in areas normally used or intended for the safe exit of people."    Instance #1:   On or about 11/21/2013, Pueblo Supermarket - #2 sub base- receiving area, St. Thomas, VI:   LPG tanks were stored inside a wood cabinet which is near to receiving & main supermarket hallways exposing employees to fire hazards while working at the area.      Section 5.2(a): Storage within Buildings Frequented by the Public:  The total quantity on display and in storage shall not exceed 200 pounds LP-Gas"       Instance #2:  On or about 11/21/2013, Pueblo Supermarket - #2 sub base- receiving area, St. Thomas, VI:  Employees were exposed to fire hazards while working at the receiving/ hallway area. The total quantity of LPG tanks stored at this area exceeds 200 pounds LP-Gas.    Note for instances #1 & #2:  Certification of abatement is not required for this citation item as abatement was documented by the compliance safety and health officer during the inspection.
