OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of a Class IV Carbon Dioxide laser which can cause severe burns to the eyes and skin. Employees were exposed to these hazards while operating and working near the Mazak Class IV Laser Cutting Machine Tools:   a)  On or about February 4, 2014 and at times prior thereto in the facility;  the Mazak Laser Path New Super Turbo X48 laser did not have a protective housing enclosing with interlocks in place to prevent laser light from exiting the area at levels that exceed the maximum permissible exposure levels.  Employees were not aware of laser hazards, protective eyewear or clothing was not worn by employees, and the laser area was not restricted or controlled to authorized employees.  b)  On or about February 4, 2014 and at times prior thereto in the facility;  the Mazak Super Turbo X48 Hi-Pro laser did not have a protective housing enclosing with interlocks in place to prevent laser light from exiting the area at levels that exceed the maximum permissible exposure levels.
