OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazard from the damaged overhead crane hooks.   The hauling hooks on the overhead cranes were missing and/or had damaged safety latches designed to prevents equipment/steel beam from coming off the hook while in the midst of hauling the steel beam to areas of the shop, on  or about 04/09/14.   a.  Three-Ton Overhead Crane (1st Bay) - Safety latch spring pin is broken making the safety latch ineffective, loose and not properly secured.  There was a large gap/space where material can slide off  the hook.    b.  Ten-Ton Overhead Crane (Big Bay) - Safety latch spring pin is broken making the safety latch ineffective, loose and not properly secured.  There was a large gap/space where material can slide off the hook.   Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to follow the Hooks ASME B30.10-1993, Section 10-1.2.3 Maintenance.   Steel, LLC was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard Section 5(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 947773, Citation number 1, Item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on February 18, 2014, with respect to a workplace located at 405 N. Clarendon Avenue, Scottdale, GA 30079.
