29 CFR 1910.23(c)(1): Open-sided floors and/or platforms four feet or more above adjacent floor or ground level were not guarded with standard railings (or equivalent) and toeboards.  a) Incoming Grading Area, 1510 West Valley Avenue, Elysburg, PA - Employees worked on an open-sided platform without guarding between the platform and the machinery while stacking wood with the Automated Lumber Handling, Inc. equipment. Employees were exposed to a four-foot, seven-inch (4'7") fall hazard from the open-sided platform to the concrete floor, as observed on or about May 20, 2014.  b) Incoming Grading Area, 1510 West Valley Avenue, Elysburg, PA - Employees worked on an open-sided platform without guarding between the access stairway and the machinery while stacking wood with the Automated Lumber Handling, Inc. equipment. Employees were exposed to a four-foot, seven-inch (4'7") fall hazard from the open-sided platform to the concrete floor, as observed on or about May 20, 2014.    In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation.

Employees were exposed to struck-by and/or caught-in hazards, as observed on or about May 20, 2014.  In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation.

In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation.  b) Rough End Department, 1510 West Valley Avenue, Elysburg, PA - Employees used a metal frame roller conveyor that was provided electrical power through a conduit and dislodged compression fitting that exposed conductors carrying electrical current. Employees were exposed to contact with an electrical current hazard as observed on or about May 20, 2014. Employees were exposed to struck-by and contact with electrical current hazards due to the lack of bulb guards, as observed on or about May 20, 2014. Employees were exposed to a fire hazard that could be created by the ignition of the wood dust by sparks upon connecting the electrical power cord to the extension cord, as observed on or about May 20, 2012.  b) Finish Department, 1015 West Valley Avenue, Elysburg, PA - Wood dust from the operation of a Timesaver Abrasive Planer had accumulated on the floor, electrical power cord, and electrical outlet receptacle. Employees were exposed to a fire hazard that could be created by the ignition of the wood dust by sparks from turning on/off equipment, as observed on or about May 20, 2012.  In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is not required for this violation. The hazard was corrected during the inspection.
