29 CFR 1910.23(c)(1): Open-sided floors and/or platforms four feet or more above adjacent floor or ground level were not guarded with standard railings (or equivalent) and toeboards: Employees engaged in truck maintenance activities near the oil changing pit in the maintenance shop were exposed to fall hazards of approximately 5 feet to the ground below in that the pit was not equipped with standard guard railing.

29 CFR 1910.23(d)(1): Every flight of stairs having four or more risers was not be equipped with standard stair railings or standard handrails as specified in paragraphs (d)(1)(i) through (v) of this section, the width of the stair to be measured clear of all obstructions except handrails: An employee engaged in fire extinguisher inspection activities in the oil changing pit in the maintenance shop was exposed to fall hazards while traversing the stairs in the pit as the stairs were not equipped with a hand rail.
