29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1): Each employee in an excavation was not protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system designed in accordance with 29 CFR 1926.652(b) or 1926.652(c): At this excavation site, employees entered vertical wall trenches to install sanitary sewer lines. Employees entered a trench over 5 feet deep where the dirt walls were not sloped or benched in accordance with Appendix B to Subpart P. Employees were exposed to hazards associated with cave-ins.
