29 CFR 1910.305(a)(2)(x): Flexible cords and cables shall be protected from accidental damage, as might be caused, for example, by sharp corners, projections, and doorways or other pinch points. a. In the Brass Cleaning Area, the employees were utilizing flexible cord sets that had damage to the exterior insulation and been taped with electrical tape. The employees were exposed to a contact with electrical current hazard. b. In the Back Scale Area, the employer was using a damaged extension cord to energize a refrigerator. The employees were exposed to a contact with electrical current hazard.

29 CFR 1910.334(a)(2): Visual inspection. 29 CFR 1910.334(a)(2)(i): Portable cord and plug connected equipment and flexible cord sets (extension cords) shall be visually inspected before use on any shift for external defects (such as loose parts, deformed and missing pins, or damage to outer jacket or insulation) and for evidence of possible internal damage (such as pinched or crushed outer jacket). Cord and plug connected equipment and flexible cord sets (extension cords) which remain connected once they are put in place and are not exposed to damage need not be visually inspected until they are relocated. a. In the brass cleaning area employees were using extension cords that were not inspected prior to each use to ensure the cords were in good condition. The employees were exposed to live electrical current. b. In the Back Scale area, employees were using extension cords that were damaged and not inspected prior to each usage to ensure the cords were in good condition. The employees were exposed to live electrical current.
