OSH Act of 1970 Section 5(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards from falling metal doors. a) Lowes Companies, Inc., Toledo, Ohio: On or about September 25, 2014, employees were exposed to struck-by hazards from falling metal doors mounted on the Garden Center cash register closets. An employee received a serious injury when a heavy metal door fell off of its track and struck their hand, resulting in broken bones. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to reconfigure/repair the current door to eliminate the potential for the door to fall off of its track. Additionally, the employer can contact other suppliers who provides like replacement door products and order a replacement door through them.
