The specific safety-related work practices shall be consistent with the nature and extent of the associated electrical hazards. The employer did not ensure that adequate safety-related work practices were employed during energized electrical work. Employees were exposed to electrical shock and arc flash/blast injuries. 29 CFR 1910.335(a)(2)(i): When working near exposed energized conductors or circuit parts, each employee shall use insulated tools or handling equipment if the tools or handling equipment might make contact with such conductors or parts. If the insulating capability of insulated tools or handling equipment is subject to damage, the insulating material shall be protected. On or about 17 December 2014, an employee performing electrical testing on equipment up to 480 volts did not have voltage rated tools. The employee was exposed to shock and burns from hazardous arcing. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
