29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): "Unprotected sides and edges." Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level were not protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems: (a)Western States Fire Protection Co. @ 1107 12th Street, Boulder, CO 80302: On and before November 10th, 2014 the exposing employer did not ensure that each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level was protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. A make-shift walk way consisting of decking material and plywood was created to allow employees to access and egress from a multi-family residential structure under construction. The walk way did not have guardrails to protect employees from a fall hazard into the foundation of the structure. This condition exposed employees to fall hazards of approximately 15 feet.
