29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, unused portions of blades, flying chips and sparks: Employees engaged in clean-up and production activities at the following pieces of equipment were exposed to injury from rotating parts of equipment and unused portions of blades in that machine guarding was not provided: a) The unused portion of the blade was not provided with a guard on the 32 inch, vertical band saw in the clean-up area. b) The spindle end nut for the buffer wheel, left side of the machine, was not provided with a guard exposing the operator to rotating parts of equipment in the clean-up area. c) The spindle end nut for the belt sander, right side of the machine, was not provided with a guard exposing the operator to rotating parts of equipment in the clean-up area. d) The drill press in the clean-up area was not equipped with a chuck guard exposing the operator to rotating parts of equipment in the clean-up area.
