29 CFR 1910.178(q)(1): Any power-operated industrial truck not in safe operating condition was not taken out of service, and/or repairs were not made by authorized personnel: On or about 02/11/2015, Caribe Home Center, #35 Castle Coakley, St Croix, VI - yard area: Power industrial trucks (PITs) were used on a daily basis to transport cargo materials during loading/unloading operations and which had following defect: hydraulic fluid leaks from its hydraulic fluid system spread around the forklift driver entrance area. Employees were exposed to slips, trips and falls while accessing the forklift driver area and the PIT had not been taken out of service until it had been restored to a safe operating condition. Note: Certification and documentation of abatement must be submitted for this citation item as required by 29. CFR 1903.19(c) and (d), respectively.
