Housekeepers are required to clean rooms that can potentially expose them to bloodborne pathogens.

29 CFR 1910.1030(g)(2)(vi): Material appropriate in content or vocabulary to educational level, literacy, or language of employees was not used in the bloodborne pathogen training program  Establishment-wide:      On or about 3/3/15, training in bloodborne pathogens was only provided through a YouTube video in English.  The housekeeping staff is primarily made up of employees who speak Spanish with limited understanding of English.  In addition, a qualified person did not give the training, nor was one available for questions.

Chemicals used in the facilities include but are not limited to:  1. Ecolab Glass Cleaner, which contains ammonia; 2. ZEP Once Over Wall Cleaner, which contains dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether; 3. Ecolab Lemon Lift, which contains sodium hypochlorite.

Establishment-wide:  On or about 3/3/15, in the following locations, the following containers were not labeled with the actual contents contained therein:  A.) Main Inn, cleaners' basket in cleaners' closet - Spray containers were labeled "Windex" while the actual contents contained therein was "Oasis 255 SF".  Squeeze containers were labeled as "Comet" while the actual contents were "Lemon Eze" B.) Speedwell Cottage,  cleaner's closet - Spray containers were labeled "Windex" while the actual contents contained therein was "Oasis 255 SF".  Squeeze containers were labeled as "Comet" while the actual contents were "Lemon Eze" C.) Standish Cottage,  cleaner's closet - Spray containers were labeled "Windex" while the actual contents contained therein was "Oasis 255 SF".  Squeeze containers were labeled as "Comet" while the actual contents were "Lemon Eze" D.) 29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1): Employees were not provided effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment and whenever a new hazard that the employees had not been previously trained about was introduced into their work area:  Establishment-wide:  On or about 3/3/15, cleaning staff employees were not provided with effective hazard communication training.  The majority of the cleaners are Spanish-speaking with limited comprehension of English.  Training was provided in the form of YouTube videos that were in English.

29 CFR 1910.134(c)(2)(i): Respirator users were not provided with the information contained in Appendix D to 29 CFR 1910.134 when the employer determined that any voluntary respirator use was permissible:  Establishment-wide:  On or about 3/3/15, housekeepers were using N95 filtering face piece masks without being provided with the information contained in Appendix D.  The respirators were provided for volunteer use.
