29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks:    (a)  CNC Department - The employer failed to ensure that guards or methods of guarding were adequate to protect employees from point of operation and rotating parts on machines such as but not limited to the CNC CM-12 lathe. The safety interlock equipped on the sliding door was disengaged to allow employees access during operation to perform polishing procedures.      On February 21, 2015 an employee sustained a finger laceration while polishing a stem inside the machine as the part was being cut.     (b)  CNC Department - The employer failed to ensure that guards or methods of guarding were adequate to protect employees from point of operation and rotating parts on machines such as but not limited to the CNC CLM 01-Mazak 350 lathe. The safety interlock equipped on the sliding door was disengaged to allow employees access during operation to perform polishing procedures.      (c) Polishing Department - The employer failed to ensure that all polishers located in the polishing department were equipped with guards that fully enclosed the nip point of the rotating belt.    In accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete and must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase, or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks:    (a) Lathe Department - The employer failed to ensure that guards or methods of guarding were adequate to guard the rotating chuck on the TUR 710A ML-05 manual lathe.    (b) Lathe Department -  The employer failed to ensure that guards or methods of guarding were adequate to guard the rotating chuck on the TUR 710 ML-04 manual lathe.     (c) Lathe Department -  The employer failed to ensure that guards or methods of guarding were adequate to guard the rotating chuck on the TURN 710A ML-08 manual lathe.    In accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete and must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase, or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.     Alin Machining Company, Inc. dba Power Plant Services was previously cited under the corporation name Alin Machining Company, Inc. dba Power Plant Services  for a violation of this OSHA Safety and Health standard or its equivalent standard, 29CFR 1910.212(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 929506, Citation number 1, Item number 7. The citation was issued on September 27, 2013, to the Alin Machining Company, Inc. dba Power Plant Services facility located at 3131 W. Soffel Avenue, Melrose Park, Illinois 60160 and was affirmed as a final order on October 31, 2013.
