29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Citation 1, Item 1 OSHA agrees that this item was abated or corrected immediately by first shutting the process down followed by substantial modification to machine controls in order to eliminate employee exposure to any hazard prior to resuming machine operation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- a) Plant 1 / Bandsaw area; Employees cutting steal slugs with a Behringer Horizontal Bandsaw were not provided with acceptable guarding such as two hand tripping devices to prevent hands from entering the point of operation between the automatic holding clamp and steel bars, on or about 03/25/2015. No abatement certification or documentation required.
