29 CFR 1910.138(a): The employer did not select and require employee(s) to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasion; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. a) Federal Correctional Center Coleman - Puncture and cut resistant gloves were not required to be worn by correctional officers conducting cell searches, pat-downs and while packing personal property, on or about June 29, 2015. In the past 4 years, there have been 11 sharps injuries while conducting cell searches, 5 while packing up property, 1 while picking up paper waste that had a razor in it and 1 during a pat down. The U.S. Department of Justice- Federal Bureau of Prisons was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.138(a), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 991369, notice number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on 10/22/14, with respect to a workplace located at FCI Aliceville, 11070 Highway 14, Aliceville, AL. The U.S. Department of Justice- Federal Bureau of Prisons was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.138(a), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 962553, citation number 1, item number 4a and was affirmed as a final order on 08/08/14, with respect to a workplace located at FCI McDowell, 101 Federal Drive, Welch, WV.
