29 CFR 1910.37(a)(3): Exit routes were not free and unobstructed: On or about November 19, 2015, the employer allowed employees to conduct work activities from the derrick work platform on a oil/gas drilling rig without having access to the secondary exit route due to the wind curtain blocking access to the escape device. Employees were exposed to the hazard of the inability to escape during an emergency.

29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body shall be provided within the work area for immediate emergency use.[63 FR 33450, June 18, 1998] Instance a) On or about November 19, 2015, the employer allowed the use of emergency eyewash equipment that did not protect the nozzles from airborne contaminants. An employee was exposed to the hazard of chemical exposure and burns. Instance b) On or about November 19, 2015, the employer allowed the se of emergency eyewash equipment that did not provide the minimal flow rate to the nozzles. An employee was exposed to the hazard of chemical exposure and burns. Among others, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to comply with ANSI Z358.1 Standard for emergency shower and eyewash equipment.
