29 CFR 1910.1025(c)(1): Employee(s) were exposed to lead at concentrations greater than fifty micrograms per cubic meter of air averaged over an eight-hour period: On or about February 10, 2016, an employee working in the Lead Burning Department was exposed to lead at a time-weighted average (TWA) of 0.074 mg/m3, which is approximately 1.48 times the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 0.05 mg/m3, for 434 minutes. Zero exposure is assumed for the time not sampled. Republic Metals, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.1025(c)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 988148, citation number 1, item number 7(a) and was affirmed as a final order on December 24, 2014, with respect to a workplace located at 7930 Jones Rd. Cleveland, OH 44105.

29 CFR 1910.1025(e)(1)(i): For any employees exposed to lead above the permissible exposure limit for more than 30 days per year the employer did not implement engineering and work practice controls (including administrative controls) were not implemented to reduce and maintain employee exposure to lead: On or about February 10, 2016, an employee working in the Lead Burning Department was exposed to lead at a time-weighted average (TWA) of 0.074 mg/m3, which is approximately 1.48 times the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 0.05 mg/m3, for 434 minutes. Zero exposure is assumed for the time not sampled. General methods of control applicable in this circumstance include, but are not limited to the following: 1) Re-evaluate the overhead ventilation systems for ways to improve air movement/capture of the high levels of metal fumes generated while lead burning to further ensure the most adequate removal of the metal fume; 2) Re-evaluate the existing work practices in the in the lead burning department to reduce the worker exposures to the airborne metal fume; 3) Explore the utilization of a downdraft table with local exhaust ventilation to further assist in removal of the high levels of metal fumes. Republic Metals, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.1025(e)(1)(i), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 988148, citation number 1, item number 7(b) and was affirmed as a final order on December 24, 2014, with respect to a workplace located at 7930 Jones Rd. Cleveland, OH 44105.
