Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards while operating the west swing frame grinder. a) Swing Frame Grinder Area: While grinding the 10418 part that weighed approximately 710 pounds, the table the part was sitting on "walked" and became unstable. The grinder slipped and jerked to the left and the employee's left hand was pinched between the wall and the grinder handle. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazards includes but is not limited to: Repair the concrete at the swing frame grinder locations to provide a level surface to support the work tables. In addition, perform a hazard analysis to determine the need and/or methods to anchor the work tables so they do not move while work is being performed.
