On or about March 24, 2016, employees were exposed to fires hazards caused by the storage of oxygen and acetylene welding cylinders located onsite. a) The employer did not ensure that each welding cylinder was secured with a safety device, including a chain to prevent cylinders from being knocked over or damaged by passing or falling objects or tampering by unauthorized persons. b) The employer did not ensure that each welding cylinder was removed from the welding cart within 24 hours after not being in use to prevent cylinders from being knocked over or damaged by passing or falling objects or tampering by unauthorized persons. Abatement certification is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).

29 CFR 1910.253(b)(4)(iii): Oxygen cylinders in storage were not separated from fuel gas cylinders or combustible materials (especially oil or grease), a minimum distance of 20 feet (6.1 m) or by a noncombustible barrier at least 5 feet (1.5 m) high having a fire resistant rating of at least one-half hour. On or about March 24, 2016, employees were exposed to fire hazards from Oxygen and Acetylene welding cylinders as the employer did not assure that each Oxygen cylinder in storage was separated from fuel gas cylinder (Acetylene) at a minimum distance of 20 feet or by a noncombustible barrier of at least 5 feet high with a fire resistance rate of at least one half hour. Abatement certification is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
