29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use: On or about August 5, 2016, employees were exposed to chemical burn hazards when the eyewash/shower station in the scrubber department did not function properly. The closed system containing corrosives was leaking. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).

29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1): Employees were not provided effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment and whenever a new hazard that the employees had not been previously trained about was introduced into their work area: a. On or about August 1, 2016, employees had not received effective training. An employee was sprayed with chemicals used in the meat scrubber system and no one knew the manufacturer's recommended procedure for chemical exposure nor reviewed the SDS for the chemicals to insure that the employee thoroughly rinsed the chemical for at least 15 minutes and received medical attention. b. On or about November 17, 2016, employees had not received effective training. Employees who said that they had been through Hazard Communication training and were working in the scrubber department said that they did not know the names of the scrubber chemicals or how to look them up in the SDS binder without knowing the chemical names. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
