29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1): Employees were not provided effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment and whenever a new hazard that the employees had not been previously trained about was introduced into their work area: (Construction Reference: 1926.59) On or about 10/31/2016, employees were exposed to silica hazards while overseeing the demolition work of subcontracted employees removing portions of brick and mortar walls with jackhammers. The removal of the brick and mortar with jackhammers resulted in silica dust becoming airborne. The employer did not ensure that employees were provided effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment and whenever a new hazard was introduced into their work area. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
