29 CFR 1910.132(a): Protective equipment was not used when necessary whenever hazards capable of causing injury and impairment were encountered: a) Monterey Pines Golf Course Maintenance Department, on October 31, 2016, two groundkeepers used a twenty (20) inch Shindaiwa Chain Saw 352s to cut tree limbs of Coastal Live Oaks on the ground. The employer failed to ensure that workers using the saw wore appropriate leg chaps, pants of ballistic materials, or hard hats when cutting tree limbs. The workers were exposed to struck by hazards from the rotating chain and falling debris.

If such hazards are present, or likely to be present, the employer shall: a) Monterey Pines Golf Course Maintenance Department, on October 31, 2016, two groundkeepers used a twenty (20) inch Shindaiwa Chain Saw 352s to cut tree limbs of Coastal Live Oaks on the ground. The employer failed to include workplace hazard assessment of using the saw to cut tree limbs. The workers cut the limbs without wearing leg chaps, pants of ballistic materials, and hard hats. The workers were exposed to struck by hazards from the rotating chain and falling debris.
