29 CFR 1910.134(h)(1): Respirators were not cleaned and disinfected using the procedures in Appendix B-2 of 29 CFR 1910.134 or equivalent procedures recommended by the respirator manufacturer: In area 361 paint booths, where supplied air respirators were provided and worn for protection while spray painting transformers with a solvent based, flammable paint, cleaning of respirators was not adequate to prevent the airline pressure gauge from becoming unusable/unreadable because of overspray, and to prevent the airflow valve from becoming caked with overspray. Abatement documentation is required for this violation.

(Note: velometer air flow readings showed inconsistent air flow within the booth including turbulence at the spray painters spraying position.) Abatement documentation is required for this violation.

29 CFR 1910.107(g)(2): All spraying areas were not kept as free from the accumulation of deposits of combustible residues as practical, with cleaning conducted daily if necessary: In area 361 paint booths, where spray painting transformers with a solvent based, flammable paint was conducted, the booth air plenums (behind the booth exhaust filters) were covered with paint residue and had not been cleaned for over a year. (Note: there was no functioning booth pressure gauge on the old booth, and velometer air flow readings showed inconsistent air flow within the booth including turbulence at the spray painters spraying position. Spray booth walls, including behind the spray painter, were coated with overspray.) Abatement documentation is required for this violation.
