29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. (a) Parts Area: On or about November 1, 2016 and times prior, the employer did not ensure that machine guarding was provided on a Baileigh Industrial Vertical Mill Drill (Model VMD-40G) to protect employees from the rotating chuck. (b) Parts Area: On or about December 1, 2016 and times prior, the employer did not ensure that the guarding on a Clausing Drill Press (Model 2234) was properly adjusted to protect employees from the rotating chuck. (c) Aluminum Body Area: On or about December 1, 2016 and times prior, the employer did not ensure that adequate machine guarding was provided on a Jet Vertical Bandsaw (Model JWBS-14) to protect employee from the unused portion of the blade. (d) Aluminum Body Area: On or about November 24, 2016, the employer did not ensure that the guarding on a Kalamazoo Startrite Vertical Bandsaw was properly adjusted to protect employee from the unused portion of the blade.
