29 CFR 1910.95(k)(3)(i): The employer did not ensure that each employee was informed of the effects of noise on hearing: a) Worksite at 4102 Bergen turnpike, North Bergen, NJ The employer did not inform employees who are exposed to noise in excess of 85 decibels as an 8 hour time weighted average in the grating and packaging line areas at Colonna Brothers Inc. of the effects of noise on hearing. 1) An employee working on the 18 oz line was exposed to continuous noise levels at 69.9% of the permissible daily noise exposure (8 hour Time Weighted Average sound level of 90 dBA) which is 0.7 times the allowable exposure limit. The Action Level is 85 dBA. The equivalent sound level of the measured dose is 87.4 dBA. Sampling was performed for 396 minutes on 1/25/17, with the unsamped portion of time considered to represent zero exposure. 2) One grater was exposed to continuous noise levels at 78.8% of the permissible daily noise exposure (8 hour Time Weighted Average sound level of 90 dBA) which is 0.9 times the allowable exposure limit. The Action Level is 85 dBA. The equivalent sound level of the measured dose is 88.2 dBA. Sampling was performed for 405 minutes on 1/25/17, with the unsamped portion of time considered to represent zero exposure. 3) A second grater was exposed to continuous noise levels at 91.7% of the permissible daily noise exposure (8 hour Time Weighted Average sound level of 90 dBA) which is 0.9 times the allowable exposure limit. The Action Level is 85 dBA. The equivalent sound level of the measured dose is 89.3 dBA. Sampling was performed for 410 minutes on 1/25/17, with the unsamped portion of time considered to represent zero exposure. Violation occurred on or about 12/6/16.
