29 CFR 1910.132(a): Protective equipment was not used when necessary whenever hazards capable of causing injury and impairment were encountered: a). On or about 2/02/17, in the Museum, employees were handling chemicals such as Toluene and Acryloid. The chemicals are used to mark up artifacts. The toluene is added to thin out the Acryloid. Both chemicals cause skin and eye irritation. The employer did not asses the workplace to determine that PPE such as nitrile gloves and safety goggles/glasses may be required. The employer provided safety glasses and gloves on a voluntary basis.
